Complexity Perception in Images

Visual complexity perception plays an important role in the fields of both psychology and computer vision: it can be useful not only to investigate human perception but also to better understand the properties of the objects being perceived. We investigate image complexity within different contexts. To this end we have performed several psycho-physical experiments on different database of images:

  1. Real Scenes database: RSIVL, and SD-IVL
  2. Real Texture images: RawFooTDB
  3. Grayscale real scenes and real texture images.

Starting from the subjective data collected by these experiments, we investigate:

  1. Influence of color in the perception of image complexity.
  2. Correlation of image features, that measure colors as well as other spatial properties of the images, with the collected subjective data.
  3. Linear and  non linear combination of image features to predict image complexity perception.
